Old Time Blues

I took a walk down the road,
I left with a girl I loved
But she ditched me ‘fore we got to the crossroad.
She don’t love me no more, she’s had enough.
I thought it was more than fun and games,
And now the loneliness is driving me insane.
I carried on and hopped a train.
I rode it through the night, and all throughout the day
As I watched the clouds pour with rain.
In the corner of the car’s corridor
A man played guitar while sitting on the floor.
He played a chord and then sang to me:
‘Now, tell me boy, what is you cryin’ for?’
I cried back at him so he could see
That I lost my love, ’cause she ran away from me.
He said,’Don’t you worry boy, it happens to us all,
But you got to stand up right after you fall.’
He then got up, tall and stout,
Threw me his guitar as he jumped out.
I don’t quite know what I’ve been taught,
But now I know my love ought to be fought.
I picked up the the strings and began to play
Them old time blues don’t ever fade away.
No no.
